NEW HAMPSHIRE'S IMPORTANT BIRD AREAS PROGRAM

The New Hampshire Important Bird Area program began in 2002 as a partnership among New Hampshire Audubon, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, and the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension. Since its inception, the NH program has identified 17 IBAs within the state, ranging from the seacoast to the Canadian border and up to the tops of the White Mountains.

At present, we are working with Audubon Vermont and several additional partners to implement a conservation plan for the "Middle Connecticut River" IBA and, at the other side of the state, get bird conservation objectives written into a regional estuary management plan. The latter region includes two Global IBAs that support the bulk of NH's Saltmarsh Sharp-tailed Sparrow population.
